Santa Maria La Ribera, DF: I couldn’t go to Mexico and not eat meat. There was no particularly logical thought process behind this idea. I’ve been to lots of places where I didn’t eat meat, including steak-loving Argentina. More….

Distrito Federal, Mexico: Spotting the Ecobici racks in Mexico City made me acutely aware of how far behind Auckland lags in finding some kind of cheap, fun and accessible answer to city traffic congestion. More….

Distrito Federal, Mexico: The way I met these two is a tribute to the awesomeness of social networking. In 2007, I interviewed Katie Taylor, a New Zealand graphic designer who lives in London. We bonded over peanuts and a bit too much red wine in a pub near The Green Space’s office, where she works, in Clerkenwell.

Distrito Federal, Mexico: Fueling my new obsession with furniture in general and chairs in particular, I spotted all of these on our second-to-last day in Mexico City. We were walking around the Condesa, Polanco and Bosque de Chapultepec with a couple of architect friends, and visited the Tamayo Museum of contemporary art. More….

Mexico: Wherever we’ve stayed here, there’s been the most beautiful furniture – though, granted, we’ve also been fortunate to be put up by two hotels that are part of the Design Hotels group in return for shooting them.

Distrito Federal, Mexico: They’re celebrating Mexico’s 200th year of independence from Spain today, and we took to the streets with the crowds: literally thousands and thousands of people converged on the main drag, the Paseo de la Reforma, and Zocalo square, to wave flags, watch military parades and eat street food. Brooklyn, New York: If I lived in New York, Brook Farm General Store is the place I’d pop into sort-of-by-accident (but actually not) every week or so, until I felt I was living a sufficiently Katherine Hepburn-esque existence where everything was practical, classic and pleasing to the touch and the eye.

Plus, look at the adorable dog!

Manhattan, New York: Last week I interviewed Mark Wigley, the Dean of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, one of those moments that makes me remember why I started doing this job in the first place. Despite his daunting academic track record and a literary backlist that would make any hack blush, he was one of the nicest, funniest and most accessible architecture experts I’ve talked to, combining a sort of youthful enthusiasm for his trade with global, street sophistication. Brooklyn, New York: I picked up a couple of copies of this magazine at the Williamsburg eatery Marlow & Sons today. It’s a lovely piece of work: heavy matte paper, reinvented vintage typefaces and clever art direction by Derick Holt (the homage to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album cover, only with a greenhouse instead of a pyramid, cracked me up). It even smells nice, like a new book. More….
