These are my favourite bits and pieces of printed cards – plus a menu and bar of soap – gathered while on the road. Business cards caused me a few headaches in the States. First, I forgot to take mine. More….

Distrito Federal, Mexico: Fueling my new obsession with furniture in general and chairs in particular, I spotted all of these on our second-to-last day in Mexico City. We were walking around the Condesa, Polanco and Bosque de Chapultepec with a couple of architect friends, and visited the Tamayo Museum of contemporary art. More….

Mexico: Wherever we’ve stayed here, there’s been the most beautiful furniture – though, granted, we’ve also been fortunate to be put up by two hotels that are part of the Design Hotels group in return for shooting them.

I love this pattern – it’s by young NZ designer Ngahuia Damerell, who moved over to textile design firm Mokum in Sydney on the back of her graduate portfolio. My interview with her is due out in the October issue of Design Quarterly.

For one of Europe’s major contemporary arts venues, Glasgow’s Tramway Theatre has an unprepossessing address. The cavernous building – a former tram depot – lies on the city’s Southside, postcode G41, a deprived area better known for racial tension than prize-winning architecture. More….

On a short trip to London in 2009, I reviewed the Design Museum’s Super Contemporary exhibition for the ProDesign website (shortly before jet-lag and over-stimulation set in).

During the London Design Festival last year, I attended a week-long series of events on sustainable design, held at the offices of my old employer, The Design Council. As well as a range of formidably creative, entertaining speakers, it had an innovative format, described by curator Ed Gillespie as “Question Time on acid”.
